The Principal Secretary Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Mr. Joseph Wairagu Irungu, CBS commissioned Ngatho Borehole Community Water Supply and inspected ongoing water projects in Gatanga Constituency. The PS was accompanied by Gatanga MP Hon. Eng. Joseph Nduati, Kakuzi – Mutumbiri MCA Hon. Muthoni Muisrael, Ithanga Ward MCA Hon. P. H Waweru, AWWDA Director Peter Kihungi, AWWDA CEO Eng. Michael M. Thuita and other senior officials.

The entourage started by inspecting the Ithanga Water Supply Project which consists of the construction of an intake weir along the Thika River, the construction of a 9 million litres/day water treatment plant and the laying of 27Km treated water to serve over 80,000 residents of Kakuku and Ithanga.

They later proceeded to commission of Ngatho Borehole Water Supply Project situated at Ngatho – Kakuzi Ward, which has a yield of 25,000 litres per hour serving more than 10,000 residents. The water supply system is equipped with solar panels to ease the cost of operations.

‌The team led by the PS also inspected ongoing water projects under the scale-up of activities for the provision of free water for informal settlements initiated by H. E Uhuru Kenyatta to help vulnerable communities to access free water during the pandemic. They inspected Ngelelya Community Water Supply which has a yield of 7,000 litres per hour, Thungururu Community Water Supply where borehole drilling is ongoing and Kanduri Community Water Supply with a yield of 15,700 litres per day serving more than 6,000 residents.
